Welcome to the Department of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati. We are delighted to have you visit our website to learn more about us. We are focused on our commitment to provide the best possible specialist surgical care to Cincinnati and the Midwest, to train the next generation of Cincinnati surgeons and to shape the surgical practice of tomorrow through innovative biomedical research. We have successfully expanded our faculty to enhance our clinical, research and educational capabilities in the areas of cardio-thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, trauma/critical care surgery, epithelial pathobiology, sepsis and inflammation, and vascular biology. The combination of our new talent and our existing faculty has enabled us to introduce innovative programs in cardiac surgery, islet cell transplantation, lung cancer screening, morbid obesity surgery, and minimally invasive surgery for the liver, kidney, and prostate. In addition, we are committed
to increasing diversity in medicine and to serving the community
as a resource for specialized surgical
care and information. This is evidenced by our efforts to increase
awareness of opportunities in academic medicine and to meet the
needs of area physicians and patients. Our faculty support area
physicians
with continuing surgical education classes, invitations to observe
and be exposed to new techniques, consult on complex cases and
serve as the referral point for treating patients with challenging
