The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery is the only program in Southwest Ohio that cares for a broad spectrum of colorectal diseases while combining patient care, clinical research, and resident education. Dr. Janice Rafferty, Chief of the Division, is the only surgeon in the area to offer implantation of the artificial anal sphincter for the treatment of advanced fecal incontinence, and she was the first in southwest Ohio to perform the stapling procedure for hemorrhoidal prolapse, a new and relatively painless surgical treatment for internal hemorrhoids. Dr. David O'Brien offers expertise in laparoscopic/minimally invasive colon and rectal surgery, surgical treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease), and diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy. Dr. Brad Davis has expertise in laparoscopic and minimally invasive colorectal surgery, diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy, and assessment and treatment of pelvic floor disorders. Sphincter-sparing procedures are routinely made available to patients with low rectal tumors. The Christ Hospital Pelvic Floor Center, the only such advanced center in a wide area, offers evaluation and treatment of fecal incontinence, debilitating constipation, pelvic organ prolapse causing bladder dysfunction, among others.
