Education in cardiothoracic surgery remains central to the mission of the Section. The thoracic surgery residency training program provides three continuous years of clinical training in cardiothoracic surgery. One resident will be starting each year. Residents will rotate on adult cardiac surgery at the University Hospital, on general thoracic surgery at the University Hospital and the Cincinnati Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and on pediatric cardiac surgery at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. There are adequate opportunities for evaluation of patients in the outpatient clinic setting each week. In addition, patients are discussed at preoperative planning conferences.
