Urology Division Establishes Foreign Exchange Fund Ahmad Hamidinia, MD, Professor of Clinical Surgery, Division of Urology, recently established the Urology Resident/Fellow Foreign Exchange Fund at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. This fund will ensure the continuation of excellent education in the Division of Urology at UC for generations to come.
The Exchange Fund will assist in supporting the travel and lodging expenses related to the Division of Urology’s resident and fellow exchange program. Like a traditional student exchange program, it offers the opportunity for UC urology residents and fellows to continue their training in other international programs, and allows urology residents and fellows from those countries to continue their training at UC. The successful training of our faculty, residents, and fellows provides endless possibilities for the future of not only them, but also the Division of Urology.
Torre Rhoades, MD, a resident in the Division of Urology, will be going to China with Dr. Hamidinia in the first such effort. (Dr. Rhoades has just been awarded a Fellowship with the Cleveland Clinic Florida Urologic Oncology Fellowship, where he will begin after his graduation on June 30, 2009.) The purpose of this medical trip to China is to help educate medical personnel about the benefits of screening populations and how to perform surgical procedures that are not commonly performed. During the visit, the procedures that will be performed and taught include: percutaneous nephrolithotomy, radical prostatectomy, radical cystectomy, ureteroscopy with stone manipulation, transurethral resection of prostate tissue and bladder tumors, radical and partial nephrectomy, vasovasotomy, and vasoepididymostomy.
To support this effort, gifts may be made in a variety of forms: an outright gift, a pledge to be paid over several years, or a stock transfer. For more information on the various gift vehicles, please contact Mike Zenz at the UC College of Medicine Development Office with any questions at (513) 558-0910. |

Vascular Surgery Division News Joseph S. Giglia, MD, Associate Professor of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery, was elected into the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery at the recent annual meeting. Reed, MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship Training Program, in her capacity as Chair of the Educational Committee of the Association of Program Directors in Vascular Surgery, along with the Vascular Surgery Board and the American Board of Surgery, developed and administered the first Vascular Surgery In-Training Examination (VSITE) for vascular surgery residents and fellows. The inaugural examination was successfully given online February 16, 2008 with greater than 95% of vascular training programs participating throughout the United States.
