Division of General Surgery

The Division of General Surgery offers state-of-the-art endoscopic and minimally invasive surgical approaches to gastrointestinal and endocrine disorders, including robotic-assisted procedures for general surgery. The Division also offers gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, gastric banding and gastric plication surgery for weight loss performed by Drs. Focus is on the surgical management of a wide variety of disorders including general surgery, benign and malignant gastric abnormalities, swallowing disorders (such as gastroesophageal reflux disease and achalasia), gallstones, abdominal wall hernias, diseases of the endocrine glands, inflammatory bowel diseases, diverticulitis, and colon cancer.

Dr. David Fischer has special expertise in advanced laparoscopic, bariatric, and endocrine surgery as well as benign and malignant diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands and pancreas. Dr. Brad Watkins is the medical director of the UC Health Weight Loss Center and is a specialist in minimally invasive weight loss surgery techniques. Dr. Jocelyn (Collins) Logan performs general surgery, endocrine surgery, esophageal diseases, laparoscopic surgery, acute care surgery, and minimally invasive GI surgery. Dr. Tim Broderick practices general, advanced laparoscopic and robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery in addition to extensive research in telemedicine, surgical simulation and other surgical innovations.

The UC Department of Surgery offers the CME-accredited Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) course to train and evaluate surgical residents, fellows and attending surgeons in the basic skills of minimally invasive surgery. 

Dr. David Fischer received recognition from his peers in the community as one of "Cincinnati's Top Docs" as published in Cincinnati Magazine.
